In my 30 years of training and empowering travel agents, I have seen the travel industry change dramatically but remain robust. Despite downturns of the economy, catastrophic events, airline changes and more the travel and tourism industry generates over $1.3 billion to the U.S. economy.
Today, travel agents have grown from being order takers to dream consultants helping take a simple idea and turning it into the perfect cruise or trip. Even with the growth of web based applications, millions continue to turn to travel agents for the personal service they can deliver. From TSA regulations to passports and even handling problems mid-trip, are all part of a travel agents role – I view them as your travel guarantee, because your satisfaction is their top priority.
Living in an on-the-go society, Home Based Travel Agents can work anywhere giving you the flexibility to live your life, have a career and not be tied to a brick-and-mortar business like in years past. Today, flexibility allows you to work on your schedule, around children and family and allow you the peace of mind to have a balanced life.
If you are looking for a way to balance out your life, have flexibility, be your own boss and help your friends, family, neighbors and more step out of their box on the adventures of their lifetime, then a career in travel as a home based travel agent may just be for you. I challenge you to think about the client base you can already bring to table today, honeymooners, retired individuals, student’s spring and summer vacations, church organizations and specialty groups like the physically challenged, gay/lesbian and ecotourists – once you start tapping into your community – I think you will find that success in travel won’t be hard to come by.
If you are outgoing, love to talk about travel, want to be your own boss, work when you want, enjoy doing research and are organized, then being a home based travel agent is the right choice for you. If you feel more comfortable working in an office environment with set hours and no responsibility for the agencies operations, then being a retail travel agent is a good choice for you.
As you begin your training with Career Quest, our staff looks forward to working with you to helping you launch your travel career.
